Why did you come? Why have you stayed?

Susan Larkin

I came to St. Thomas in 1975 when our oldest son David was two years old. My mother had brought my brothers and me to church all the years we lived at home. It was important to me that our children should go to church as well. Our church at home was Episcopal and it was a bonus that the church just down the hill near the bottom of Buffalo Road in Slaterville was also an Episcopal church.

I am still at Saint Thomas because of the community I found there. We’ve done so much together over the years. We created a Sunday School when our kids were young, restored a donated organ when we were still young, had the stained glass windows restored, got St. Thomas on the National Register of Historic Places, added a bathroom, had the roof replaced, had the building painted inside and out, hosted spaghetti dinners and rummage sales, and sponsored the Caroline Food pantry for eleven years. The list goes on. We have been willing to move forward when the need arises. I would sadly miss the liturgy of Sunday services and my friends at St. Thomas if I stopped going to church.
